A man who defrauded Kenyans using DIG’s Masengeli name has been charged

A Man who pretended to be Deputy Inspector General in charge of  Administration Police  Gilbert Masengeli’s nephew to defraud Kenyans has been charged at Milimani law Courts.

James Chesimani Masengeli Alias Timothy Khatete Barasa appeared before magistrate Dolphina Alego and denied the charges.

He was charged with obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 313 of the penal code.

He was charged on diverse dates between November 18, 2025 and November 23, 2025 at unknown place within the country, with intent to defraud obtained Sh 2,588,000 by pretending that he was in a position to secure seven job opportunities for employment in the National Police Service knowing it was untrue.

Through his lawyer Shadrack Wambui, the accused pleaded with the court to be released on favorable bond terms saying that he is a family man with four kids.

The accused had given false information to court that he is a serving police officer but it was verified by prosecution that he is not.

He was released on Sh 1Million bond or a cash bail of Sh 500,000.
