Kakamega Woman Rep Sues Bloggers for Ksh 10 Million Over Alleged Defamatory Posts.
Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda Busihile has filed a case in court against eight individuals, accusing them of spreading defamatory content about her on social media and blogs.
The suit, lodged at the Milimani Magistrate’s Court, names Fabian Musamia, Peter Angatia, Joel Eshkumo, Dennis Weche, Dan Makori Kibwage, Janet Wasike, Melisa Awuor and Tariq Shitiabai as the respondents.
Through her lawyer Danstan Omari, the legislator claims the group has been behind a series of online publications that have harmed her reputation and subjected her to public ridicule and emotional distress.
According to the court filings, the disputed content alleges that Muhanda abuses alcohol and engages in inappropriate conduct involving young men at a facility identified as Amanda Resort in Kakamega.
She has dismissed the claims as false and malicious, maintaining that they were deliberately crafted to damage her image as a public leader.
The woman rep. further states that the management of the mentioned establishment has refuted the allegations, indicating that details cited in the posts are inaccurate.
Muhanda argues that the continued circulation of the posts online is causing ongoing harm to her personal and political standing, especially given the speed at which such content spreads on digital platforms.
In her application, she is seeking orders to bar the defendants from publishing or sharing any further material about her, as well as directives compelling them to remove existing posts and issue a public apology.
She is also seeking Ksh 10 million in damages for libel and slander, in addition to the costs of the case.
The application has been filed under a certificate of urgency, with her urging the court to intervene swiftly to prevent further reputational damage.
The matter is now awaiting directions from the court.
