Five anti–Africa Forward Summit protesters arrested during demonstrations in Nairobi have been charged before the Milimani Magistrates Court with offensive conduct likely to cause breaches of peace.

The accused persons, identified in court documents as Beres Muthomi, Tracy Phanice Auma, Patience Gitau, Kenneth Juma and Samuel Jomunga, were arraigned following their arrest during protests linked to the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

According to the charge sheet, the five allegedly caused a disturbance on May 11, 2026, at around 4:00 p.m. near the University of Nairobi by shouting and throwing stones, actions prosecutors say caused fear among individuals attending the summit.

Court documents describe the offence as:

“Offensive conduct conducive to breaches of peace contrary to Section 94(1) of the Penal Code.”

The prosecution further alleges that the incident caused apprehension to persons attending the Africa Forward Summit within Nairobi City County.

The case was filed before the Milimani Magistrates Court under Criminal Case No. E243 of 2026.

The five were each released on a cash bail of Ksh 5,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh 50,000.

The matter is set for mention on May 18, 2026, before Hon. Irene Thamara at the Milimani Magistrates Court.

The arrests followed protests that erupted in Nairobi as activists attempted to march toward areas surrounding the Serena Hotel, Uhuru Highway and the Kenyatta International Convention Centre during the summit proceedings.

Police later dispersed the demonstrators and arrested several individuals near security zones surrounding the summit venue.
