The National Economic Development Party (NEDP) has suspended its Executive Director, Daniel Mokua Onsomu, in a move that marks the latest leadership changes within the political party.

The decision was communicated in a letter dated June 26, 2026, to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), following a resolution passed by the party’s governing body during a meeting held two days earlier.

According to the notification, Onsomu’s suspension took effect immediately.

“We write to formally notify your office that the Governing Body of the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), at its meeting held on 24th June 2026, resolved to suspend Daniel Mokua Onsomu from the position of Executive Director, effective immediately,” the letter states.

The party further requested the Registrar to remove Onsomu from its records as an authorised official and signatory, stating that he no longer has authority to transact business or act on behalf of NEDP.

“Consequently, Mr. Onsomu is no longer authorized to represent, act on behalf of, or transact any business in the name of the Party. His name should be removed from your records as an authorized official and signatory of the Party,” the letter adds.

NEDP also notified the Registrar that all future correspondence with the office would be executed by the party’s remaining authorised officials and asked that the official records be updated accordingly.

The communication was signed by Party Chairperson Dr. John Nyamu, Treasurer Nancy Muthami and Founding Member Peterson Maina. It bears the official stamp of the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties acknowledging receipt on June 26, 2026.

The development comes days after Onsomu failed to appear before the Kibera Chief Magistrate’s Court in a criminal case in which he is accused of obtaining more than Ksh2 million by false pretences, prompting the court to issue warrants for his arrest.
