Four men who pretended to be Ministry of Mining officials to defraud a company over a Sh 25M gold deal are now facing charges.
The four, Felix Odhiambo Otieno alias Sammy, Derrick Odhiambo Omore, Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed, and Moses Odhiambo, have denied the charges before a Nairobi court.
The court was informed that on April 22, 2025, at Runda estate within Nairobi County, jointly with others not before the court, by use of fraudulent tricks, you induced Voltex Commercial Trading Company through its representative ALA Bassam Hisham to pay you the sum of USD 200,000 towards the purchase of gold that they never delivered.
In the second count, the four were charged with preparing to commit a felony against the law.
They were charged that on May 7, 2025, at Runda Estate, they were found in possession of 25 yellowish metallic bars purported to be gold,1 weighing machine,1 electric gold tester gun, assorted documents bearing the logo of the Ministry of Mining, and unidentified liquid in two small plastic bottles believed to be used in the course of committing the purported offence of cheating.
They were also charged with personation contrary to the law.
They are said to have presented themselves to Majid Harib, Mohammed Khaleal, and Alla Bassam as an official at the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economic and Maritime Services, Directorate of Geological Surveys and Geo Information Management.
