Former Tigania East Member of Parliament Josphat Mwirabua Gichunge has been charged before the Milimani Law Courts over an alleged land fraud scheme in which he is accused of obtaining more than Ksh25 million from multiple complainants through false pretences.
According to the charge sheet, the former legislator faces 12 counts of obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution alleges that between February 2017 and June 8, 2017, at Ansh Plaza along Biashara Street in Nairobi, Mwirabua obtained various sums of money from several individuals after allegedly representing that he was in a position to sell them plots of land together with completed greenhouses.
Court documents indicate that the complainants allegedly paid different amounts ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of shillings for the proposed land transactions.
Among the amounts cited in the charge sheet are Ksh10.19 million, Ksh2.2 million, Ksh1.96 million, Ksh1.6 million, Ksh1.539 million, Ksh1.28 million and several other payments allegedly made by the complainants.
The prosecution contends that the accused knew the representations were false at the time the payments were made.
Mwirabua appeared before the court and denied all the charges.
The court directed that the matter be mentioned on June 19, 2026, when it will rule on the issue of bond and bail.
