Man Charged with Forgery and Ksh679,700 Fraud in Nairobi Court.

A man has been arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts facing multiple charges, including obtaining money by false pretences, forgery, uttering false documents and money laundering.

According to the charge sheet, the accused, Leonard Cheruiyot Langat, is alleged to have obtained Ksh679,700 from Langat Isaiah on diverse dates between April 14, 2025 and June 30, 2025 in Nairobi County.

The prosecution states that he obtained the money by falsely pretending that he was in a position to secure jobs for three clients at the Kenya Prisons Service, a claim it alleges he knew to be false.

In addition to the fraud charge, Langat faces several counts of forgery contrary to Section 345 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code.

The particulars indicate that on or before June 30, 2025, he allegedly forged Kenya Prisons Service calling letters bearing different serial numbers, purporting them to be genuine documents issued by the service.

He is also charged with uttering false documents contrary to Section 353 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code, with the prosecution alleging that he knowingly presented the forged calling letters as authentic.

Further, the accused faces charges under the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act. The court documents state that he is alleged to have handled and transacted the sum of Ksh679,700 through an M-Pesa account registered in his name, knowing or having reason to believe that the funds were proceeds of crime.

In the alternative, he faces a count of possession of proceeds of crime.

Court records show that the accused was arrested on April 1, 2026 and is currently in custody at Lang’ata Police Station, with the matter filed before the Milimani Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The case is expected to proceed as the court gives further directions on hearing dates.
