Mumias East MP Peter Kalerwa Salasya Arraigned at Milimani Over Hate Speech Allegations

Mumias East member of parliament, Peter Kalerwa Salasya, was today arrested at Milimani Law Court and charged with hate speech.

He pleaded not guilty before Milimani magistrate PK Mutai, who released him on cash bail of Ksh 200,000 or a bond of Ksh 500,000.

Through his lawyers, led by Ken Echesa, Salasya, who was charged under the National Cohesion and Integration Commission laws, applied to have his firearm and be reinstated following his dramatic arrest.

While delivering his ruling, the magistrate also directed the investigation officer to appear in court on the 4th of June to explain the whereabouts of the MP’s phone and whether the fireman is part of the investigation.

According to the charge sheet, PETER KALERWA SALASYA, on the 10th of May 2025, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, knowingly and intentionally published insulting words online, to wit: “Luos are number one enemies of the Lunga people. We must fight back against this narrative of Luos, or they will stink us. They are in the gut but still fighting an innocent person. Ama tuwatahiri lishe while using your verified X-account (formerly Twitter), Juandie @pksalasya, and named Hon. Peter Salasya, knowing it to be insulting, inciteful, and well calculated to stir up ethnic hatred between the Luhya and Luo communities
