Residents of the Kamukunji area are demanding an official investigation and immediate action over the corporate branding of the California Police Station, alleging it represents an unlawful privatization of a public security facility.

In a formal demand letter submitted by E&D Advocates, the Kamukunji Dwellers Association has called upon the Inspector General of Police to address the situation.

The letter, dated September 17, identifies a private company known as ATIS as the entity behind the station’s branding and alleged sponsorship.

The community’s petition describes this corporate intrusion as “reckless and unlawful,” stating it is both unconstitutional and a severe breach of public trust in the National Police Service.

The application further alleges the station’s commander, Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Aden Denge Guyo, now acts as an “agent of ATIS,” carrying out arbitrary arrests and harassment of citizens on behalf of private interests rather than serving the public.

The association has issued a set of demands, which include the prompt removal of all ATIS branding from the police facility, the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against OCS Aden Denge Guyo, and a public directive from the Inspector General prohibiting the branding or sponsorship of any police stations by private entities.

The advocates warned that if these demands are not fulfilled within a 14-day period, their client will pursue the matter through constitutional litigation, public demonstrations, and lawful mass action.

Adding to the allegations, the residents claim the owner of ATIS is an individual named Abdi Aidid, who they allege is a foreigner in possession of a Kenyan ID.

They’ve accused the OCS of serving the interests of this single businessman above those of the wider community, effectively “pocketing” the police commander in a manner they say violates NPS ethics.

Copies of the formal complaint have also been sent to the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and the Director of Criminal Investigations.
