Husband Testifies To Court How Wife Paid Nearly Ksh700,000 for Cosmetic Procedure That Ended in Death

A Nairobi court has been told that a 47 year old woman paid almost Ksh700,000 for a cosmetic surgery that later resulted in her death, as the manslaughter case against the operators of a city cosmetic clinic continued.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi at the Kibera High Court, Francis Nganga Mundia testified that his wife, Lucy Wambui Kamau, died after suffering serious complications following a liposuction and Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure.

Mundia told the court that a postmortem examination revealed his wife succumbed to severe complications linked to the cosmetic surgery carried out at Omnicare Medical Limited, trading as Body by Design, along Kabarsiran Avenue in Nairobi.

The prosecution has charged Dr. Robert Maweu Mutula together with Body by Design directors George Wakaria Njoronge and Lilian Edna Wanjiru Mwariri with manslaughter.

The three are accused of causing Ms. Wambui’s death on October 16, 2024.

During his testimony, Mundia produced documents showing that his wife paid Ksh693,000 for a procedure intended to remove fat from her abdomen.

He stated that despite her worsening condition after surgery, she was discharged from the clinic before full recovery and without settling the hospital bill.

He further told the court that shortly after her discharge, the clinic shut its doors, a move that raised alarm when attempts were made to return her to the facility.

Mundia recounted that his wife discovered the clinic through advertisements promoting cosmetic procedures in early October 2024.

He said he discouraged her from undergoing surgery, but she later proceeded with the operation.

When he visited her a day after the surgery, Mundia said she was in visible pain, struggling to breathe and complaining of severe abdominal discomfort.

He observed that her clothing around the abdomen was soaked with fluids and blood.

The following day, he noticed continued discharge of fluids accompanied by a foul smell, but was reassured by clinic staff that the symptoms were normal and would subside.

According to Mundia, Ms. Wambui was discharged on October 22, 2024.

Her condition deteriorated shortly after arriving home, prompting attempts to return her to the clinic, only to find it closed.

She was instead rushed to Nairobi Hospital.

He told the court that on October 23, 2024, his wife called him asking for prayers, expressing fear that she was dying.

She passed away three days later, on October 26, 2024.

Mundia reported the incident at Muthangari Police Station, triggering investigations that culminated in the current manslaughter charges.
