A plea taking against a Police Officer accused of killing a Garissa Taxi Driver Deferred to tomorrow.
Police Constable Charles Ngulungu Kauwi, who is facing a manslaughter charge linked to the death of taxi driver Adan Mohamed Hassan, appeared before court on Wednesday but did not take plea after informing the court that he was not represented by an advocate.
The court consequently postponed the plea taking to Friday at 10:30am to allow the accused officer time to secure legal representation.
According to the charge sheet presented before the court, Kauwi is accused of unlawfully causing the death of taxi driver Adan Mohamed Hassan on April 21, 2026, within the Modika area of Garissa County.
The officer faces charges of manslaughter contrary to Section 202 as read together with Section 205 of the Penal Code.
Court documents indicate that the matter was filed under IPOA investigations, with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority pursuing the case on behalf of the State.
The charge sheet further shows that the accused was apprehended on May 6, 2026, before being presented before court for plea proceedings.
The case is expected to proceed on Thursday when the accused is anticipated to formally respond to the charge after obtaining legal counsel.
