LONDON— A Chinese student found guilty of drugging and raping 10 women in both the United Kingdom and China was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Thursday (June 19) by a London court.

Zhenhao Zou, 28, a resident of South London, used online platforms and dating apps to contact women. He invited them to his home under the guise of having drinks or studying, only to drug them.

He proceeded to record himself raping and sexually assaulting the unconscious women and even kept some of their clothing and jewelry as mementos. If you are reading from the Phoenix browser, click on Read Original at the top to read the original version of the article that contains the video.

In March, Zou was convicted of 28 offenses, including 11 counts of rape, at Inner London Crown Court. During Thursday’s sentencing, he received a life sentence with a minimum term of 24 years, accounting for time already served in custody.

Judge Rosina Cottage described Zou as “a highly manipulative and intelligent young man who gave no thought at all to the wishes and feelings of the women he victimized.

Detective Inspector Richard MacKenzie of London’s Metropolitan Police said outside the courtroom, “The sheer scale of his offending, which spanned two countries, makes him one of the most prolific predators we have ever seen.”

Authorities believe that more than 50 additional women may have fallen victim to Zou, though they have yet to be identified.

Originally from Dongguan in Guangdong Province, Zou is believed to have moved to the UK in 2017. He started a PhD program at University College London in 2019.

After one victim came forward, police discovered drugs and hidden cameras in Zou’s home. His laptops and phones contained hundreds of videos and millions of messages, revealing that his crimes extended beyond the UK to China as well.
