Kenya’s top motocross riders will battle for national honours and a place in the country’s team for the Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN) 2026 when the Kenya National MX1 Motocross Championship takes place on Sunday at the Jamhuri MX Track in Nairobi.

The championship, organised by the Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya (MSFK), Blade Doc Network and FIM Africa, will serve as the official selection trials for Team Kenya ahead of the continental championship scheduled for later this year in Namibia. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to attract the country’s leading motocross competitors.

Organisers say this year’s championship goes beyond competition, incorporating road safety campaigns and community engagement activities aimed at promoting responsible riding.

“This championship weekend brings a full programme of community and road safety initiatives, delivered in collaboration with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), reinforcing motorsport’s role as a platform for youth engagement, safety education, and sustainable mobility in Kenya,” the organisers said.

A key attraction will be the RSA Boda Safety Challenge, where boda boda riders will compete in practical road-safety skills for cash prizes, merchandise and gift hampers. Participation is limited to the first 30 registered riders with roadworthy motorcycles, helmets and closed shoes.

Families attending the event will also enjoy food, lifestyle activities and quad bike experiences, while visitors will have an opportunity to explore electric motorcycle technology at the free Kibo Spark Entry Zone under the theme, “Ride Safe, Ride Smart, Ride Electric,” powered by Powerhive.

The championship has attracted support from a wide range of partners, including NTSA, Coca-Cola, RFH Healthcare, Kibo, Powerhive, the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), AA Kenya and Rising Stars Africa.

According to the organisers, the event reflects a broader effort to develop Kenyan motorsport while promoting rider safety and creating a pathway for local talent to represent the country on the continental stage.
