A senior lawyer has lost her bid to call two additional witnesses in a defamation case she filed against former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

‎Justice Janet Mulwa dismissed an application by advocate Lucy Nyamuita Momanyi, who sought to introduce the witnesses in support of her evidence in the ongoing case that dates back to 2014.

‎The judge ruled that Ms. Momanyi had ample time earlier to file the witness statements and serve them to the defendant. She noted that the matter had previously been handled by appellate judge Musaka Mbogo, during which the applicant could have submitted the additional statements.

‎Justice Mulwa directed that the case proceed to hearing on March 19, 2026, when Sonko will be expected to present his witnesses.

‎Ms. Momanyi sued Sonko, alleging that he defamed her during a KTN breakfast talk show in 2014, where he allegedly referred to her as “a thief who swindles clients’ money.” She is seeking damages for the alleged defamatory remarks.
