Nairobi to Welcome Leading Healthcare Event, Emphasizing on Innovation and Universal Health Coverage

In the upcoming month, the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) will serve as the center for East Africa’s biggest assembly of healthcare experts, policymakers, and innovators with the launch of WHX Nairobi and WHX Labs Nairobi.

Previously identified as Medic East Africa and Medlab East Africa, the newly branded events will occur over three days with the theme: Advancing healthcare and laboratory innovation in East Africa.

Kenya’s population is expected to exceed 63 million by 2030, leading to a swift increase in healthcare demand.

Nonetheless, the healthcare workforce is growing at a slower pace than the demand for services, putting strain on the nation’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) objectives.

Recent budget reductions of SH38.7 billion have intensified the pressure on the system, underscoring the critical requirement for creative solutions and greater funding.

Backed by the Kenya Ministry of Health, the Africa CDC, and endorsed by the Kenya Medical Association, this year’s event will confront these issues directly.

Over 200 exhibitors—featuring prominent names such as Roche Kenya, Siemens Healthineers, Randox, Beckman Coulter, and QIAGEN—will present the newest advancements in diagnostic technology, digital health, and clinical care.

The agenda for the conference centers on essential topics like sustainable health funding, collaborations between public and private sectors, and digital advancements.

Specialized tracks will concentrate on primary healthcare, women’s leadership in health, antimicrobial resistance, and the impact of artificial intelligence in diagnostics and telemedicine.
Leadership and strategic financing are pivotal to achieving equitable healthcare,” said Liberty Kituu of WomenLift Health. “When women are equipped to lead, health systems become more inclusive and resilient.”

WHX Labs Nairobi will place a strong emphasis on laboratory innovation, featuring sessions on molecular diagnostics, genomics, automation, and sustainable lab management.

These are designed to address acute workforce shortages and expand access to essential diagnostic services across the region.

The event will host over 65 international speakers, including representatives from AMREF Health Africa, Aga Khan University, the International Hospital Federation, and regional laboratory associations.

Desta Lakew, Group Director of Partnerships at AMREF, emphasized the importance of the event: “My hope for WHX Nairobi is that it catalyses greater political goodwill and innovation toward scalable, people-first solutions that can be replicated across Africa.”

By bringing together the public and private sectors, WHX Nairobi and WHX Labs Nairobi aim to accelerate progress toward universal health coverage and solidify Kenya’s role as a leader in healthcare transformation in East Africa.

Tom Coleman, Portfolio Director at Informa Markets, the event organizer, added: “This year’s agenda reflects the region’s commitment to inclusive primary healthcare, investment in sustainable financing, and the rapid adoption of digital and diagnostic innovation.”

The event will take place in September 2025 at the KICC in Nairobi.
