Level 4 travel advisory

The United States has issued a Level 4 travel advisory — its highest warning — urging Americans to avoid travel to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza due to ongoing “armed conflict, terrorism, and civil unrest”.

This elevated alert from the State Department follows several days of escalating attacks between Israel and Iran, alongside “security incidents without advance notice”.

In its advisory, the State Department stated, “Terrorist groups, lone-actor terrorists, and other violent extremists continue plotting potential attacks in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza.

These individuals may strike with little or no warning, targeting tourist spots, transport hubs, markets/shopping malls, and government facilities. The security situation is unpredictable and may shift rapidly, with violence possibly erupting without warning across Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza.

Rising tensions in the region could also lead airlines to cancel or limit flights in and out of Israel. If you are reading from the Phoenix browser, click on Read Original at the top to read the original version of the article that contains the videos.

The advisory also noted that some areas pose higher risks, encouraging travellers to consult the country information page for further guidance and to check the CDC’s site for the latest travel health updates.

For those who must travel to the region, the U.S. government recommends the following safety measures:

Monitor the latest alerts through the embassy website for updates on travel conditions.

The advisory concluded by stating, “In recent months, there has been a rise in violence, Israeli military actions, and terrorist incidents. Some of these have led to injuries or deaths of U.S. citizens. During times of unrest, the Israeli government may impose movement restrictions within the West Bank, including curfews in some areas.

U.S. government personnel in Israel may also face travel limitations with little or no prior notice due to heightened security threats.
