A 39-year-old Chinese national Alex Chen Guang remains in Kenyan custody as legal proceedings move forward regarding an extradition request from Uganda over an alleged fraud scheme exceeding UGX 4.5 billion, or roughly KSh 151 million.
The Extradition Case
Also known as Alex Chen Guang, he is wanted by law enforcement in Uganda following his previous employment as a cashier at Diamond Steel Uganda Limited.
Ugandan authorities are seeking his return to face 30 counts of forgery alongside a single count of theft linked to an alleged financial loss of UGX 4,533,379,400.
Investigators claim that Chen Guang misused his internal access to company finances to tamper with payment vouchers and weighbridge bills.
Court Ruling and Bail Opposition
A Nairobi magistrate court rejected an application for bond after finding that the prosecution established sufficient justification to keep Chen Guang detained while the extradition matter is resolved.
State Counsel Fatma Shaban argued against release, expressing concerns that Alex Chen Guang could flee the country and obstruct the execution of the warrant.
The formal diplomatic request was received by the Director of Public Prosecutions in Kenya on June 10, 2026, stemming from a document dated April 18, 2025, processed via the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice.
Pending the final determination of the proceedings, Chen Guang will remain incarcerated.
