NANDI RESIDENTS CALL FOR IMPROVED HEALTH SERVICES, ELECTRICITY, AND DEVELOPMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURE
County Government of Nandi: Residents of Nandi County have requested the government to prioritise increased funding for the health sector, electricity connectivity, and infrastructure development in the upcoming national budget.
The appeals were made during a public participation forum organised by the National Assembly’s Committee on Budget and Appropriations, held in Kapsabet Town.
The session brought together citizens from Nandi County’s six constituencies: Mosop, Aldai, Chesumei, Tinderet, Nandi Hills, and Emgwen.
A major concern raised was the need to upgrade Potopoto Health Centre, located in Chemilil/Chemase Ward, to a Level 3 facility. Residents emphasised that the health centre currently serves over 30,000 people in an area known for frequent snakebite incidents due to the high population of venomous snakes.
“Potopoto Health Centre is the only facility available for thousands of residents. With the high number of snakebite cases, we are requesting that it be elevated to a fully operational sub-county hospital,” said one resident.
Residents from Emgwen Constituency decried the lack of electricity in parts of their area and called for budgetary allocations to support rural electrification.
School-going children also participated in the forum, calling for investments in education infrastructure, including the construction of modern libraries, science laboratories, and classrooms.
Other pressing issues raised included the construction of tarmac roads, improved mobility and the presence of police for enhanced security, support for teachers, and facilitation for village elders who play a crucial role in community governance.
The vice chairperson of the committee and head of the delegation, Hon. (Dr) Robert Pukose (Endebess), expressed appreciation for the residents’ input. He assured them that their concerns, memoranda, and proposals would be seriously considered during the budgeting process.
Also present were Committee Members Hon. Christopher Aseka (Khwisero) and Hon. Samuel Moroto (Kapenguria), alongside Nandi County Woman Representative Hon. Cynthia Muge.
