Former Lands Cabinet Secretary Amos Kimunya has been acquitted in a Ksh 60 million land case linked to the transfer of 25 acres of land in Nyandarua.

The court cleared Kimunya of charges relating to abuse of office and conflict of interest after ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

In the judgment delivered on May 6, 2026, the Judge criticized the investigations conducted in the matter, noting that the prosecution’s case was riddled with inconsistencies and evidentiary gaps.

The court observed that there were “several gaps in the investigations” and found that the charges against the former minister had not been sufficiently supported.

Also acquitted in the case were former Director of Land Adjudication Lillian Njenga and Midlands Limited chairman Junghae Wainaina.

The prosecution had alleged that the accused persons irregularly facilitated the transfer of 25 acres of public land in Nyandarua to Midlands Limited, a company allegedly associated with Kimunya.

However, the court ruled that there was insufficient evidence connecting the accused to any criminal conduct.

The acquittal now brings to a close the long-running land case involving the former Kipipiri MP and senior former public officials.
