Former Kesses MP Dr. Swarup Mishra has paid a glowing tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a selfless leader whose legacy will endure for generations.

Speaking following Odinga’s passing, Dr. Mishra said the veteran opposition leader was “not just a political figure but a symbol of democracy, peace, and forgiveness.”

“Raila was not a leader who sought power for its own sake. He fought for democracy, for multipartyism, and for the freedom of all Kenyans,” Mishra said.

He recalled that throughout his decades-long political career, Odinga remained calm and respectful, even toward his fiercest critics. “He never abused anyone, never spoke ill of others. He always chose peace over conflict,” Mishra added.

The former legislator likened Odinga to global icons such as South Africa’s Nelson Mandela and America’s Martin Luther King Jr., saying history would remember him as “the one and only Baba.”

“In history to come, there will be only one Baba. We don’t know when another like him will come again,” Mishra said, noting that Odinga’s leadership was grounded in humility and compassion.

He further praised Odinga for his quiet acts of kindness, saying he often helped people personally without seeking publicity. “Baba believed in love, peace, and forgiveness. His heart was for the people, not for power,” Mishra eulogized.

Dr. Mishra’s tribute adds to the growing chorus of condolences from leaders and citizens across Kenya and beyond, all mourning a man widely regarded as one of the country’s greatest statesmen.
