Paul Kimani Mwangi Charged with KSh 7,590,000 Client Fraud at Makadara Court

Paul Kimani Mwangi appeared before Magistrate Wandia Nyamu at the Makadara Law Courts, where he faced charges of stealing by conversion and making documents without authority.

He denied all the charges.

The court heard that Mwangi is accused of taking KSh 7,590,000 from his client, Joseph Kimani Muchiri, on different dates between June 2023 and March 2025.

How the Alleged Fraud Happened

According to the prosecution, the case centres on documents that were allegedly created to give the impression that payments had been made.

It is claimed that:

A KCB bank credit advice was allegedly forged to show money had been transferred

KRA domestic payment slips were also prepared to support the same transactions

The documents were then used to back supposed property-related payments

Investigators believe the documents were meant to assure the client that funds had been properly processed.

The Charges

Mwangi is facing:

Stealing by conversion of KSh 7,590,000

Making documents without authority

Forgery of financial documents

Bail Arguments

The prosecution opposed his release on bail, telling the court that the accused has no known place of residence after reportedly closing his office.

The court was also told that attempts to reach him through family members did not succeed.

“The accused has no known place of abode… This clearly shows that he is a flight risk,” the prosecution said.

The prosecution further noted that his practising certificate was last renewed in 2023.

Defence Position

The defence asked the court to grant bail, saying the accused understands court processes and will comply with any conditions set.

“He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and will abide by the court’s decision as he understands the rules,” the defence told the court.

Magistrate Nyamu directed the defence to respond to the prosecution’s affidavit.

Mwangi remains in custody as the court considers the bail application.

Case Summary
