PPDT Declines to Stop Sifuna’s Removal as Hearing For Fresh Challenge Continues.

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has declined to grant interim orders sought by former ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to stop the Registrar of Political Parties from gazetting his removal from office, allowing the implementation of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) resolution of June 22, 2026, to proceed.

The ruling means the Registrar of Political Parties is at liberty to continue processing the changes arising from the ODM resolution while the dispute remains before the Tribunal.

Sifuna has filed a fresh complaint and application seeking to overturn his removal, arguing that the ODM Disciplinary Panel that handled his case was biased and denied him a fair hearing.

Appearing for the Orange Democratic Movement, advocate Ken Amondi, alongside Simeon Mongare and T.J. Kajwang, opposed the application. The party maintained that Sifuna was accorded an opportunity to participate in the disciplinary proceedings but chose not to take part despite the process being open and transparent.

ODM also argued that the Tribunal lacks jurisdiction to determine the dispute, contending that the NEC resolution had already been implemented and forwarded to the Registrar of Political Parties for action. According to the party, once the decision was transmitted to the Registrar, it ceased to be an internal party matter and was therefore beyond the Tribunal’s intervention.

Although it declined to issue interim orders, the Tribunal directed that Sifuna’s fresh application be heard on July 21, 2026, when the parties will present their substantive arguments.

The matter was heard before a five-member bench comprising Presiding Member Gathu Kiragu and members Jin Muzna Mohamed Yusuf, Stephen Musau, Theresa Chepkwony and Abdirahman Adan Abdikadir.
