Broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka Threatens Legal Action Against Bloggers and Media Outlets Over False Alai Settlement Rumors.

Veteran radio personality Fred Obachi Machoka has threatened to take legal action against 28 online content creators, media outlets, and prominent bloggers over false publications made in viral social media posts claiming he had settled his ongoing defamation case against Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai.

Through his lawyer,Lawyer Danstan Omari, Machoka issued a 48 hour ultimatum in a demand letter seeking a retraction of the statement made. The demand letter also seeks

a public apology, compensation from each party worth Ksh 20,000,000 for reputational damage and distress and that all creators pull down the alleged false information from their respective platforms and that they stop publishing false information regarding the client.

The list includes several high-profile online entities and digital channels, including Ramogi FM, Mutembei TV, Safi News Media, Kenya Daily Online, Soko Analyst, and popular commentators Abuga Makori and Alberto Nyakundi Amenya, among others.

The demand letter dated June 8,2026 says that the targeted accounts published updates ln X between June 7 and June 8. The letter claims that the accounts falsely claimed that Machoka had been compensated Ksh 500,000 by Robert Alai as a full and final settlement to withdraw an active lawsuit.

Lawyer Danstan Omari strongly opposed these claims, clarifying that civil suit

Machoka’s advocates strongly refuted these claims, clarifying that the civil suit HCCC No. E146 of 2025 is still active and is set to appear before the High Court. Speaking on behalf of his clieng he emphasized that the broadcaster had not entered into a settlement agreement with Alai and he did not receive any money from him too.

Danstan Omari & Advocates said that the publications were posted accompanied with photos of Machoka and that this targeted their clients character, conduct and integrity withouy any verification or due diligence.

They argued that this gave a false impression that their client Mr. Machoka was willing to trade his principles for financial benefits and that this had severely damaged his nearly 50-year reputation exposing him to embarrassment, contempt and public ridicule.

“Take further notice that unless the above demands are met in full within forty-eight hours from the date of receipt hereof, we have firm instructions to institute legal proceedings against you,” the law firm warned.
