A homeless deaf and mute man has pleaded guilty before the Milimani Law Courts to charges arising from a break-in at the residence of Kasarani MP and SportPesa Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri.
The accused, Jeremy Kamau, appeared before the court and admitted to charges of burglary and theft in a dwelling house after the particulars of the case were interpreted to him through sign language.
Court documents indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours of January 18, 2026, at Karauri’s home in Nairobi’s Westlands area.
Prosecutors allege that Kamau gained entry into the residence and made away with an Apple MacBook Air M2 laptop worth Ksh100,000, as well as a can of Heinz beans and a can of Maison Perrier energy drink.
The court further heard that after the intrusion was detected, Kamau allegedly advanced toward security officers stationed at the property.
During the ensuing confrontation, he was shot in the leg by security personnel.
Kamau was brought to court using a walking frame, with the injury linked to the shooting that followed the incident.
Following his guilty plea, the court directed that a pre-sentencing report be prepared to assist in determining the most appropriate sentence.
The case was postponed to July 17, 2026, when the court is expected to receive the report and issue further directions.
