The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nairobi has issued a strongly worded statement rejecting what it describes as “baseless allegations and hostile narratives” surrounding recent developments involving Iran, blaming what it calls a coordinated disinformation campaign by foreign actors.
In a press release dated April 13, 2026, the embassy accused Israel and its allies of attempting to mislead the international community, stating that the claims being circulated are “not only unfounded” but aimed at diverting attention from alleged violations of international law.
The statement frames the ongoing situation as one of self-defence, asserting that Iran’s actions are “legitimate and lawful” under international law, particularly referencing Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. According to the embassy, the conflict did not arise spontaneously but followed what it terms as “premeditated” aggression against Iran’s sovereignty.
Addressing the broader geopolitical narrative, the embassy also questioned the legitimacy of claims made against its nuclear programme, maintaining that Iran’s activities are peaceful and have consistently been verified through international inspections. It notes that its nuclear position has been “officially and repeatedly declared” as non-military in nature.
The statement further criticizes what it describes as double standards in global scrutiny, arguing that those accusing Iran have themselves avoided international oversight mechanisms while possessing nuclear capabilities.
On the humanitarian front, the embassy highlights the impact of the conflict, pointing to civilian casualties and destruction of infrastructure. It poses the question of whether such actions can be justified, describing the situation as a war marked by “the brutal killing of civilians” and widespread damage.
It also links regional instability, including tensions in the Persian Gulf, to what it terms as external military actions, insisting that any measures taken by Iran are defensive and proportionate.
In its concluding remarks, the embassy calls on the international community to take a firm stance, urging global actors to “condemn these acts of aggression and hold the perpetrators accountable,” while warning against silence in the face of escalating conflict.
The statement underscores Iran’s position that it remains committed to “peace, justice, and the principles of international law,” even as tensions in the region continue to draw global attention.
