Sebastian Onyango, chairman of Justice & Equity Kenya, has called for greater accountability, transparency, and peaceful civic engagement amid growing public concern over governance, management of public resources, and national stability.

Concerns Over Governance and Public Funds

In a statement issued on behalf of the organisation, Onyango expressed concern over what he described as rising cases of fraud, organised criminal activity, and the misuse of public funds.

He said such actions continue to erode public trust and threaten the security, dignity, and livelihoods of ordinary Kenyans.

He specifically pointed to reports of financial losses linked to the e-Citizen platform, urging authorities to carry out thorough and transparent investigations into the matter.

Call for Accountability

According to Onyango, any individuals or institutions found responsible for the loss, mismanagement, or diversion of public funds must be held fully accountable under the law.

He also called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to move swiftly and independently in establishing the source of funds allegedly used to fuel unrest, violence, or fraudulent dealings.

Push for Stronger Oversight

Onyango further urged Parliament to review the legal and regulatory framework governing public digital platforms, saying stronger safeguards are needed to close loopholes and protect public resources from abuse.

Appeal for Peace Ahead of Rally

With the Linda Mwananchi Rally approaching, Onyango stressed the importance of upholding peace and protecting constitutional rights, particularly the right to peaceful assembly.

He called on the National Police Service and other security agencies to ensure the safety of all attendees without intimidation, interference, or excessive force.

Warning Against Violence

He warned politicians and other individuals against inciting violence, mobilising criminal groups, or disrupting public order, saying such actions are illegal and must be dealt with firmly.

A Call for Unity

Onyango also urged Kenyans to remain peaceful, vigilant, and united in rejecting violence, corruption, and impunity.

“Enough is enough,” he said, adding that Kenyans deserve transparent leadership, responsible governance, and meaningful development.

The statement was also endorsed by Justice & Equity Kenya Secretary Janet Sutton and Organising Secretary Rose Nyarkaksingri.
