Two DIRECTORS of Chedders Investment Limited have been charged with the alleged robbery of tyres valued at over Sh3.5 million in a case that has raised eyebrows within the commercial enterprise community.

Caroline Mumbi Njau and Gideon Kiprotich Rono Koech had been arraigned earlier at the Milimani Law Courts, where they faced robbery charges before Magistrate Onsarigo. The duo, both indexed as administrators of Chedders Investment Limited, pleaded no longer guilty to the fees.

According to the prosecution, the alleged theft took place over a two-month duration between October 6 and December 20, 2018. During this time, the accused folks are said to have stolen a total of 270 tyres, all with the Nexen emblem and of numerous sizes. The tyres had reportedly been taken from the premises of MobiTyres Autoserv Limited, located in Nairobi County.

The complainant, Ogle Ali Musleh, who serves as a director at MobiTyres & Autoserve Limited, claimed possession of the stolen tyres, which he valued at Sh3,544,000. The prosecution, in addition, indicated that the accused, with the aid of virtue in their positions in Chedders Investment Limited, had access to the premises and stock during the duration of the length in question.

Following their appearance in court, the magistrate ordered that Caroline Mumbi Njau and Gideon Kiprotich Rono Koech each be released on cash bail of Sh200,000, pending the hearing and resolution of the case.

The recount is scheduled to be pointed out on a later date, as investigations continue. The case has attracted attention because of the excessive value of the stolen items and the corporate ties between the corporations involved.
