Court Petition Filed Over Alleged Health Claims Against MP Nabwera

A fresh legal battle has emerged in Kakamega after MP Nabwera filed a defamation suit against Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, accusing him of spreading harmful claims about his health status.

In the case lodged before the High Court, the legislator contends that Savula publicly insinuated that he is HIV positive, statements Nabwera describes as false, reckless and intended to damage his public image.

The petition states that the remarks were made in circumstances that allowed them to reach a wide audience, triggering public debate, social stigma and personal anguish.

Nabwera says the claims have affected his dignity and exposed him to unnecessary scrutiny as a public servant.

In a rare legal move, the MP is asking the court to direct that an HIV test be conducted under professional medical supervision, with journalists present, to decisively disprove the allegations.

He argues that transparency is necessary to restore his reputation and counter what he terms deliberate misinformation.

Nabwera further submits that the use of health-related accusations as political weapons is dangerous and undermines efforts to fight stigma surrounding HIV and other medical conditions.

The Deputy Governor has not yet responded to the allegations in court.

The matter is expected to come up for directions, where the court will determine the next steps, including whether to grant the orders sought and set timelines for the hearing.
