Legal Showdown Looms After Savula Accused of Defaming Lugari MP.

A legal dispute is brewing between Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Daraja Nabwera and Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Angatia Savula following claims that the county official made harmful public statements about the legislator during a funeral ceremony last year.

Nabwera, through his advocates, has written to Savula demanding an immediate retraction and apology over remarks allegedly made on November 2025 at a burial in Likuyani Sub-County.

The statements, according to the MP, were uttered before a public gathering and later circulated beyond the event, causing serious damage to his personal and political reputation.

The demand letter accuses Savula of making unfounded allegations linking the MP to the accidental death of a school principal and referring to private matters that Nabwera says should never have been discussed publicly.

His lawyers argue that the remarks were reckless, unverified and violated constitutional protections relating to dignity and privacy.

Nabwera is also demanding financial compensation amounting to Ksh 100 million, citing the alleged reputational harm and emotional distress suffered as a result of the remarks.

The letter further cautions that commenting publicly on issues connected to active court processes could amount to interference with justice.

The MP maintains that he has no involvement in the matters mentioned and says he is ready to submit himself to any lawful inquiry to clear his name.

His legal team has warned that court action will follow should Savula fail to meet the demands outlined in the notice.

As of publication, Savula had not issued a public response to the claims.

The unfolding dispute adds to rising political tension in Western Kenya, with observers watching closely to see whether the matter will be resolved through apology or escalated to litigation.
