A man said to be the husband of Senator Maureen Tabitha Mutinda has been arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts on a series of charges relating to the alleged unlawful transfer of ownership of a Toyota Prado.
Christopher M. Munene denied the accusations when he appeared before the court to answer charges of forgery, uttering a false document, obtaining registration by false pretences and unauthorized access to a computer system.
According to the prosecution, Munene is alleged to have participated in the preparation of fraudulent motor vehicle registration documents between January 2023 and September 2024. The documents allegedly concerned motor vehicle registration number KBX 121Q, a Toyota Prado, and were presented as genuine records issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
Court documents further indicate that the accused allegedly presented one of the disputed registration certificates to a Nairobi motor vehicle financing firm in September 2024 while knowing it was not authentic.
The prosecution also accuses Munene of unlawfully obtaining a vehicle registration certificate after allegedly misrepresenting himself as the rightful owner of the Prado.
In addition, he faces charges under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act. Investigators claim that he illegally gained access to Senator Mutinda’s eCitizen account and used it to facilitate the transfer of ownership of the vehicle without the registered owner’s consent.
The senator is listed as the complainant in the case.
Munene pleaded not guilty to all counts.
The court granted him bond of Ksh200,000, with an alternative cash bail of Ksh100,000, pending further proceedings.
The case will be mentioned on July 1, 2026.
